A spoof of film noir detective movies, “Red Herring” is set in America in 1952. The country is developing the H-bomb and the Russians are after information. Intertwined love stories, a murder mystery, and an international spy ring form the parallel story lines that deal with the dangers of love, marriage, and espionage. With references to “I Love Lucy,” Richard Nixon, and Senator Joe McCarthy, the comedy is good-humored laugh-out-loud fun.
With quick scene changes, the cast of seventeen bombards the audience with silliness and mayhem. Andy Kirby directed with Cheryl Hastings as assistant director.
